Manufacturer part number
Is it possible to setup agile such that you can add a manufacturer part number directly to a BOM rather than the Agile number that represents the manufacture number? The main case is for a sole sourced part for which there will never be a second manufacturer. This would prevent the requirement of a lookup sheet for purchasing for parts that don’t have multiple sources.
Is the only option to create an Agile Number that matches the Manufacturing number? The biggest issue we have is with the communication between Agile and our MRP software. We order manufacturer part numbers but always have the convert the BOMs from the Agile Numbers to the Manufacturing numbers using lookup. A lot of wasted time.
what will happen if the sole sourced part is going to be multi-sourced tomorrow? I believe the system/integration should be implemented such that it handles that use case. Otherwise, you will end up revising part/ BOM if that mfr part changes. You can have the integration logic handle that transformation for sole-sourced part, if it must be handled differently.
If that part becomes multi-sourced I was thinking I could create an Agile number the would include the 2, 3, or how many ever manufacturer parts are added/accepted for the design. So in the end I’d have an Agile Number that matched the manufacturer number that would the sole source and an Agile number that was multi-sourced and included it and whatever else was accepted. Would that work or cause any issues?

I know it isn’t exactly what you are looking for, but this just FYI if you aren’t aware:
From the BOM tab – you can use Actions > Print – select “Include Manufacturers” – then Preview/Print as a quick way to view all of the Manufacturer Parts that are associated to each of the items within the BOM.
You can do other way, Couple of OEM customer ensure that Supplier follow OEM part numbering for tracking part across supply chain.
This is usually done by capturing Manufacturer original part numbers in separate field in MPN object.
while registering manufacturer part number. Enter OEM part number in MPN field and “Manufacturer part number” in separate field within MPN.
