Replace or Append text

We are using V9.3.5.  When I am editing an Affected item BOM I select an Item Number in the BOM Table and paste a new number with the existing number selected.  I would expect this to do a replace but when I paste it appends with a semi-colon separator.  If I type a number it will correctly replace but a Paste appends to the existing number.  Is there a setting to get this to replace instead of append?

No setting. That is “as designed”–oh how I hate those words.
