How are dead Files Created
Orphan Files :
Filefolders not associated with any other objects.Attachment will be kept in the system unless relavant filefolder is hard deleted.
We have Orphan File script to identify them.
Dead Files:
Files exists in Vault but do not have entry in Database.we have dead file locator utility to identify them.
Please let me mnow
Hi Raju,
Creation of dead-files pretty much rise from user actions itself. Generally when an attachment is deleted from a business object’s Attachments tab, the File Folder object continues to remains in the system. This object is available for re-use.
However when these are objects aren’t re-used for any other object they remain in system without any association.
These are thus safe to delete.

Hi Arif,
If attachments are removed from object. If File folder is not used in any object and doesn’t have any relationship,it is orphan and can be deleted.
If such File Folder is Hard deleted, the entry in database is lost and file is moved to purge folder.
As per the Oracle support document for Dead File Locator. It says dead file as
Files exists in Vault but do not have entry in Database.we have dead file locator utility to identify them.
I am confused with this statement.please let me know how much scenario happens(No entry in Db but file exists physically)
I agree with Arif.
Note: Raju – If you want to delete those files, you should carefully delete from vault.

Naresh
