Customer willing to use Agile for EBOM to MBOM

Team,

I have a customer that would like to use Agile PLM (V9.3) to handle EBOM to MBOM.
The goal is to have Engineering maintaining the EBOM, then Manufacturing Engineers to maintain the MBOMs (one BOM per Plant) so that you do not need to duplicate part numbers (ie Save as under a different number). Other PLM Systems (ie Dassault or PTC) can address this very good but I can’t find good information on how to do this within Agile PLM.

Any information / links / tips would be appreciated.

Hi there,

We will be interested in this question as well.

We have Agile 9.3.4 with Sites. We will use the Sites to have the ME enter their BOM and use the Master site as a common BOM in Oracle. SCO can be used for the ME to change their mBOM.

One issue we have is the engineering BOM uses A/R as quantity and uses /XX numbers instead of real numbers. It is because our ME cut to fit in the field wire and heat shrink tubing.

Hi TJ,

Oracle Agile doesn’t handle two different BOMs in the same item like the Teamcenter and Enovia does, though you can have different BOMs for different manufacturing sites, it’s called distributed manufacturing.
So you should consider start using sites, they can deal with your requierements.

To make sure I understand your answer correctly.. I can not have one EBOM linked to multiple MBOMS ( one per plant) but if I use the Distributed Manufacturing, I could create one BOM in site #1 and could have the same BOM into a different site #2 with a different structure.  Will the Change process go across both sites?

Hi TJ,
you understood correctly.
And yes, the change process go across both sites, in your example.

P.S. A little care with Sites….
Be sure to evaluate its operation in your DEV environment – and backup the DB before you start.  Once enabled you can’t turn Sites off.
Also, if you’re using Oracle EBS, the data from “Sites” comes through as “ORG”s  With Master BOM and extraction to the ORG.
So, Oracle requires additional configuration as well.

The BOM for your assembly is created as one Giant BOM.  Each item with unique Site requirement will seen in in-line after the master item.
Only the single unique item for a single site is entered on the BOM – otherwise the master item is used. If one site in unique, the other Sites use the master item
Also, for ease of use you can select to view the Master BOM that shows all sites, or, can select a single Site to view it’s individual BOM.
