I’m on my way to attend IDE 2019 Summer School at Southern Italy. The theme of the IDE 2019 is Beyond Transformation: Evolving the Digital Enterprise. Check IDE 2019 website for more information. Companies are going through the process of digital transformation and changes. Existing processes are still alive, but new business models and changes are coming. Design, production methods, and supply chain are going to be transformed, which will require a new skill set and new technological platforms to support.

Here is my favorite passage from IDE 2019 introductory background.

The company has increasingly become a system made up of highly interconnected components in which the information produced during the whole product lifecycle plays a crucial role. The produced data real-time collection, processing, and correlation do allow to enable new business paradigms that can generate greater value through an increase in company knowledge.

I will have a privilege to keynote at Life Cycle in Industry at large (chair by Prof. Sergio Terzi of Politecnico di Milano). I look forward to sharing my knowledge and experience of working with different companies as well as my perspective on new technological platforms company to support distributed network of companies to collaborate and build new business models of the future product lifecycle. I will share my experience of the last four years of building OpenBOM – a collaborative network platform for manufacturing companies, suppliers and contractors (disclaimer – I’m CEO and co-founder of OpenBOM)

CAD and PLM industry past 50 years of innovation moving from drafting boards, expensive workstation, personal computers and coming to the era of networked applications.

Collaboration is moving from paper-based boards like on the picture below…

to PC /Network based collaboration, which is also very limited.

The next innovation in product development, manufacturing and lifecycle will be coming from network platforms.

What is my conclusion? I look forward to discussing business transformation at the upcoming IDE 2019. The transformation of product lifecycle process starts from the relationships between companies. Manufacturing is becoming more of a connected network than ever. It demands new business models, products and technologies. Just my thoughts…

Best, Oleg
