CEBIT and Hannover Messe

CEBIT was the largest and most internationally representative computer expo. Since 1986 the event was traditionally the computing part of the HANNOVER MESSE, the world’s leading trade show for industrial technology. In 2018, CEBIT was run for the final time.

In 1986, at CEBIT the big topic in the IT world was office communication. Since then, a lot of innovations have been presented at CEBIT: the first laptop computer was shown back in 1986. The first mobile phones, the first SatNav system (1994), the first mobile phones with built-in cameras as well as first microwave oven that was connected to the internet were being demonstrated at CEBIT in 1999. In 2001 the hype moved on to M-Commerce (retail using mobile devices), in 2010 Cloud Computing was the big topic, and autonomous vehicles were one of the trends in 2017. Many of these innovations are part of our daily life today.

Immerse yourself in the value of customer driven innovation. Experience tomorrow’s supply chain today and become the pioneer of innovation to delight your current and future customers.

From now onwards, the events are merged again: Computing and industrial technology cannot be viewed as two different topics anymore, they are now two sides of the same coin. As we enter the fourth industrial revolution, manufacturers are faced with boundless new opportunities to innovate continuously – but all these innovations must be customer-driven to ensure business growth – and they are enabled by information technology.

Industry 4.0 for a better customer experience

Manufacturers are yet to completely use Industry 4.0 operating principles to get closer to customers, suppliers and distributors. Today, customers expect personalization, connectivity, and on-demand fulfilment. Customer demands, changing buying habits and advances in technology have all conspired to make service both your key point of differentiation, and the most important battleground with your competitors. As a manufacturer, it’s no longer enough to simply deliver a product to a customer – even if it performs exactly to specification. The customer’s ongoing experience has become a core part of the value you offer. Businesses must make way for a more flexible, continuous approach to innovation.

As many forward-thinking companies recognize, the fourth industrial revolution is a means to transform their supply chain, product development, and manufacturing processes, creating a digital thread that delivers vital information about products across their entire lifecycle, for a better customer experience.
