Which OS preferable?

A. Linux – Red Hat Enterprise 7
B. Windows 2012
We are on A (physical) right now, thinking of going to B platform (virtual). What’s your environment and experience on this?

Autovue is a windows  application ported to Linux so there used to be some features (PDF generation?)  that weren’t available on the Linux port, Otherwise I don’t think there is much difference. We use linux as that what we have most experience supporting as an OS for servers.

If it were me I’d choose based on what support skills you have unless those missing features on linux autovue is critical to your business

Thanks Adrian! I was thinking on the same term on ‘support skills’.

Hi Scorpi,

I do agree with Adrian about he use of OS according to business. However A. Linux is more preferable than Windows.
Two main reasons I want to note here are :
1. Linux is more controllable and secured in terms of maintenance as a sys Admin. File system will be always in control.
2. Large, complex and critical applications should reply on Linux since it will not crash/stuck and can handle more processes compared to windows when needed.
