Manufacturer Name Change

Several Semiconductor companies buy other companies. For example National Semiconductor had parts moved to Texas Instruments.

I am looking for the best process to Obsolete the old part numbers under the old name to keep historical records and move the same mfg part number to the new Manufacturer. The old mfg part numbers will be obsolete and the mfg numbers under the new manufacturer will become active.

We have already confirmed the mfg part numbers are the same.

Looking for others that have gone through this process. If it was already asked in this forum, please point me to that location.

You can modify the Manufacturer on a Manufacturer Part, so try an Import that updates that field for your large list of Manufacturer Part.
Note there’s a warning message if you update one at a time, so make sure your import preferences ignore this message.  Try it.

Thank you Matt. I had tried this, just wanted verification of any issues. I appreciate the response.

Did it work for you?  I’d admit that I’ve never tried it.

As Matt said,  we too did the same. We changed Manufacturer name and import with the same set of MPNs. Post that we extracted all the attachments associated with the MPNs and performed attachment-upload using File upload utility.

Leverage PRODUCT CHANGE NOTICE process to restructure catalog.

Capture old part number in an attribute as historical reference, while creating new MPNs or Internal Part numbers.
