Importing Project from excel

I tried importing project from excel mapping the excel name to agile name field and number to number. I’m getting root parent doesn’t exist error. Is it possible to import using excel ? Or can we just update the attributes on existing projects?

Can you clarify if the object itself is already created (the project itself).  Are you using SDK to do the import or the import functionality?
Worst case is that you update the objects using a script (see Agile PLM SDK Developer Guide – Using APIs for more information).

Project is not created. I want to create a new one using the excel with agile import functionality. This might be a bug. Need to check on Oracle support. Will confirm.

Hi Vidya,

I think it is a known bug for 9.3.3.PPM doesn’t support general Import from excel.

Faced in my last project. There was the KM document shared by Oracle for this. It has same error as you getting along with work-around. If you have access to Oracle support then browse Doc ID 1082425.1

Let me know if you have issues in accessing document, will share the details here.

Regards,
Arif

Thanks , Arif. I have an account . I will try the work around. But will it work in 9.3.5? I haven’t tried yet.

Yeah it should.

With 9.3.4 my experience is the root project must be created in PLM first.
To do a bulk import, we created a dummy root project, then imported a Project XML file with the subtasks set to the intended list of root projects.  Once that import was done, I edited each project to become a root project in PLM and collected the ID numbers.
Then I did the bulk import of project attributes using the respective PLM project ID numbers via an excel file.
