Import Attachments

I know I can import attachments in bulk, but can I do an import to change attributes on the attachments tab using the import load function or is there a way to do this?

Hi Nelly,

Can you please tell me how to import attachments in bulk.
As I needed to upload one document on almost 550 parts, But I am unable to  find template or excel whom i will use to import in one shot.
It will helpful for me if you provide or guide me to do same.

Thanks
Priyanka

Hi Nelly,

File load can update attributes (f;ex fields) you have enabled when you loading files by using attribute name / value pairs in the index file, but AFAIK you can’t use File Load or import to change attachment attributes as a separate process after the attachment is created.

From the import / export guide:

ITEM,P00010,,C:/temp/logo_color.bmp,FILE,Description=”Fileload,Test”,Date01=12/12/00,List01=Select1,Text01=”Test_Fileload”,Text02=DFSF<CR>

Optional pairs of attribute names and attribute values used to load data into flex fields. The default separator character for attribute names and values is an equal sign (=), but you can specify another character. Separate each attribute/value pair with an attribute delimiter, such as a comma.

Hello  Adrian,
Good Morning.

REG: Bulk documents upload in Agile

I’m uploading documents one by one into agile, upto 50 documents to 50 parts in an ECO.

Kindly suggest a way to automate this process.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks,

Import cannot add attachments or modify attachment tab attributes, except when importing a PDX file that contains attachments. Although an aXML file can contain attachments, it will not process them directly for Items, except as part of a Bill of Substance (I think). I have no idea if Import will add a new record when processing an existing attachment, or replace the file and update the attributes.

FileLoad can load attachments and attributes as Adrian pointed out, but if you run an updated index file with new attribute values through FileLoad again, it will create new attachment records, it will *not* update existing records. Been There, Done That, and removing the duplicates is a PITA.

So far as I know, a PX to do this would probably be the best way to go about it. FileLoad has no “update” functionality. I have no idea if Import would update things, or simply add a new record and create a duplicate record. Other than manually changing them, a PX is about the only way to do it.
