Dual Workflow in one.

Is it possible to have one workflow that works both like a ECO and MCO depending on what actions you take. For example, if I have a review of a document and it doesn’t need a change but I want to show that it was reviewed but not rev it up we would run and MCO. If we reviewed the document and decided it needed to be revised it would run through ECO to up-rev. Is it possible to change course after review to either functionality to REv or no rev?

Hi Nelly,

In the PLM world, what do you want to do is accomplished by using an Engineering Change Request (or Change Request for short)  and associated workflow. You submit an object for analysis on a CR so that people decide if they want to rev it up (later thru a Change Order) or not, and their decision will be documented in the CR. At the end you will see that the Change history for a certain object will also reflect it having passed by a CR process.

The PLM theory behind MCO is that you will assign another Lifecycle Phase and additional information to an object without increasing the revision number – like adding manufacturing information to an object and relating this information on the same revision assigned by engineering.

Great answer!  I’ve had a little trouble in the past trying to help business users understand the benefit of using ECRs without it just seeming like an extra unnecessary step, but this is covers it very well.  Thanks!

Good quote Clóvis,

by the way Nelly, if during the CR process you realize that it’s necessary to change both, document and manufacturer, you can do it in an Engineering Change Order.

My best
