Implement PPM using PC

Has anyone implemented Product/Project Portfolio Management through Customized workflows in Product Collaboration. I would love to hear your thoughts if basic Product portfolio management can be done without having to install PPM module.

What are the Pro and Cons of not having PPM

Thanks

Hi Archana,

Before implementing the PPM we did a benchmark with Phillip Morris and On Semiconductors. Both companies are using the Agile PPM as a key tool for global project management. I believe they will be happy to share their experience with others.

We run 9.3 and are using the PPM phase / gate with workflows on PC. For example, once PDR / CDR / any design doc is on release process, once workflow is approved – the gate for the PDR / CDR / etc.. is set as done / completed and notifications are sent to the project team and the most updated file is easily available to all as it is located under the project’s docs / relevant gate (HLD, PDR, CDR, etc…).  We use the PPM for high level  planning only and MS project for the rest.

We also use the Agile as our document management tool (configured docs, as well as none configured docs). We replicate the PPM Gant structure to file folders on the PC (convert the Gant structure to BOM), so we have all docs available to all users on Agile per project, with the Agile search capabilities (very strong engine). This concept of work is working good for us, as users have most of their work environment in once place (we have multiple sites globally).

We were also checking the option to manage projects as BOMS under the PC, but the efforts in setting everything up, as well as the features that are missing for a real project managements, convinced us to use the PPM.

As a side remark: From what I know, the PPM module is being improved on each and every release of Agile, closing gaps with MS Project.
