I’m still digesting tons of information I’ve got last week during AU2019 in Las Vegas. I will continue to share my comments and thoughts during this week and maybe even more. Today, I want to share what I’ve seen at Design and Manufacturing Keynote. It was presented by Greg Fallon, Jon Der Hartog and Stephen Hooper. It also included discussion about Autodesk and ANSYS between Autodesk CEO Andrew Anagnost and ANSYS CEO Ajei Gopal.

The amount of news was massive for such a small amount of time. I recommend you to watch the online recording of the sessions. You can watch it here.

I’m sure you will find something for you there as well. Below I shared a few slides I captured from the session.

Connect, automate, network. That was the main message during the keynote. I like it a lot. Especially, when it started from the following slide.

It shows one of the problems I can see in the current paradigm of PLM and engineering and manufacturing software – a focus on a single company and the opportunity behind the network-based models. Check my earlier blogs about it – PLM and Future Network Paradigm.

Autodesk and ANSYS partnership introduces new features and advances in Autodesk tools, and how new partnerships like the one with ANSYS can enable better designs and better decisions.

Autodesk PLM was mentioned in the keynote in the context of Autodesk Vault and Fusion Lifecycle integration. I will talk more about Autodesk Fusion Lifecycle in my next blog.

Autodesk Vice President and General Manager Stephen Hooper introduced tons of new stuff coming in Autodesk Fusion 360 and related products.

A vision of convergence between design and manufacturing. It is a clear evolution of the product innovation platform presented a few years ago.

Autodesk Eagle tool will be available now in Autodesk Fusion 360. This is great news for everyone because the amount of electronics in modern products is skyrocketing.

Autodesk Fusion Team and collaboration with new features for collaborative data sharing and reviewing.

What is my conclusion? I was impressed with the number of new things presented at the AU2019 Design and Manufacturing Keynote session. Few important things to pay attention: an increased integration between products both desktop and cloud; the evolution of Autodesk PLM, multi-disciplinary (electronic + mechanical) design workflows in Fusion 360 and increased capability of Autodesk Forge and Fusion Team for collaboration. I can see an indication of the growing maturity of the Autodesk cloud platform, which is today one of the most mature multi-tenant cloud platforms in the industry. It will be interesting to see the trajectory of cloud platforms in the next few years-  all vendors in this space (Autodesk, Dassault, PTC, and Siemens) are coming with new solutions. Just my thoughts…

Best, Oleg
