Back last week, I attended COFES 2019 – Congress of the Future of Engineering Software. COFES is a great networking event, but it is always a source of future ideas.

There are many visionary videos and presentations. Microsoft was doing many of them and some of these videos are focusing specifically on manufacturing. Take a look on this one (from 2011).

Watching this video in 2019 is very interesting because you can see how many elements of the future presented in that video is real applications available today.

The first day of COFES was dedicated to several keynote presentations. My attention was caught by Microsoft visionary keynote – What Does the Manufacturer of the Future Looks Like? A Microsoft Perspective – In this keynote, we will present the scenarios that embody Microsoft’s vision of the Manufacturing industry. Presented by Paul Maher – General Manager, Industry Experiences, Cloud + AI and Diego Tamburini, Principal Industry Lead – Manufacturing.

I found presentation insightful and worth sharing and discussing. Here are a few slides I captured and I wanted to share it with you.

We are all moving towards 4th industrial revolution. But how it will look is still a big question.

The almost agreement between all vendors is that cloud and data will lead the revolution.

A bit busy, but very insightful slide about Manufacturing trends.

And intelligent manufacturing scenarios.

What is my conclusion? Microsoft has a great vision of manufacturing. There is no simple path from vision to execution. However, I’m learning today how Microsoft is empowering partners to bring the vision of future manufacturing into reality together with Microsoft. Just my thoughts…
